Why Poker Pro Ron Stanley is Known as Carolina Express

Most professional poker players have nicknames given to them by their fellow professional poker players. There is someone known as "dot com" because he was engaged in the Internet industry before being involved with the poker industry. There is someone known as "The Knife" because his surname sounds like such term. There is a female professional poker player who is called "Poker Babe" because she used to be called "Blackjack Babe" when she was still professionally involved in the blackjack world. There is also a professional poker player who is fondly called as "Oklahoma" because he has lived there his entire life. But how about Ron Stanley? He is called "Carolina Express" but he does not hail from either North or South Carolina. He was not born there, was not raised there, and he has never lived there. Nobody actually knows how he got such nickname. And nobody knows too where he got his stellar skills in playing poker.

Ron Stanley has already been involved with the professional poker world as early as the 1980s. As a matter of fact, on August 14, 1989, this professional poker player became a first place winner in one of the games held at the 5th Annual Diamond Jim Brady tournament. He won US$56,680, which at that time was already a very large amount of money.

In May 1990, Ron Stanley joined the 21st Annual World Series of Poker tournament. He joined an event that put him on the 10th spot. He joined a Limit Hold'em tournament of the World Series of Poker in the following year and triumphantly became the first placer, taking home US$203,000.

Ron Stanley was visible as a yearly participant of the World Series of Poker until 1994. He was not a successful World Series of Poker participant in 1995 and 1996 but made a comeback in 1997 when he placed 3rd and 4th in two events held at the 28th Annual World Series of Poker. After such appearance, this professional poker player was not seen until 2000 when he cashed in the money in two events at the 31st Annual World Series of Poker. He experienced several money finishes more until 2006.

In 2007, Ron Stanley's success included landing on the 4th place spot when he joined a game at the Mandalay Bay Poker Championships, which was a tournament that was conducted by the World Poker Tour in May. This professional poker player also attended the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic of the World Poker Tour on December 11 and the Deep Stack Extravaganza on June 17.

These are only some of the victories experienced by Ron Stanley. Between 1989 and 2007, this professional poker player has made numerous contributions. And since he is one of those professional poker players who have been making the industry proud, it does not matter anymore if we find out or not where his nickname "Carolina Express" came from. Although it is still interesting to know where he got it, right?
